Power, Politics, and Spirit: Going beyond dichotomies – a talk

It is no great insight that American society is in trouble. Our political system is working poorly and virtually every issue is presented in simple-minded dichotomies built around “liberalism” vs “conservatism.”  The truth is quite different, more interesting, scarier and also more optimistic.  Traditional liberalism and conservatism gave both broken down, and what can both invigorate and provide an ethical ballast to American society is a revival of spiritual traditions with an immanentist rather than transcendental or world denying bias.
